Share your photos on Twitter

Have you heard of Twitpic? No, we didn’t just call you a bad name. Promise.

Twitpic is a new entry into the Twittersphere that allows users to upload photos from their computer to Twitter. The interface is simple, and so is the actual uploading.

First, you enter your Twitter login information. Second, you select an image to share. Third, you add a caption (if wanted) and post the picture. You can then view the photo from the Twitpic page or from your Twitter homepage. Easy as cake.

An obvious disadvantage to Twitpic is that you have to be in front of your computer to post your images. Contrast this with other services such as VisualTwitter and MobyPicture, which allow you to upload an image from your mobile device. Seeing as Twitter really shines as an on-the-go social network, this limitation might be devastating.

You make the call.

Drupal 6 is released

Category: Beta Software, Blog, FireFox, Gmail    |    304 views    |    Add a Comment  |

The powerful Open Source CMS Drupal has released its latest version onto the world. Drupal 6 adds a host of new features, including an easier installation process, built-in OpenID support and updates to the theming structure.

As far as content management systems (CMS) go, Drupal is easily one of the most powerful, especially for scaling large sites with multiple authors. But that power has always come at a slight cost to usability - especially for new users. We’ve been playing with Drupal 6’s various release candidates (we haven’t installed the final release on our test set-up yet) and have been extremely impressed at the changes made in streamlining and simplifying the installation and overall management system. Is it as easy as WordPress, well no — that’s not really Drupal’s aim — but it is much more intuitive than Drupal 5, which in itself was a step-up from Drupal 4. New users should check out this 12 minute screencast on Drupal’s site, it walks you through the entire process.

If you are looking for a scalable, customizable CMS solution to host either a large site or lots of different sites, you owe it to yourself to give Drupal a look.

Google adds post scheduling to Blogger

Blogger schedule posts

While Google’s Blogger service offers just a fraction of the features you’ll find from a more robust blog client like WordPress, it looks like Google is playing catch up. Just the other day we reminded you that you can check out draft.blogger.com for a variety of beta features and widgets that aren’t available via the regular Blogger site. And now it looks like Google has added a feature do Blogger in Draft that it should have had years ago: the ability to schedule posts.

Previously, once you hit the publish button in Blogger, your post would go live. Even if you set the date for tomorrow or next year, a post would still go live as soon as you hit publish. This comes in handy if you want an easy way to pin a post to the top or bottom of the page (just set the date for the year 3017 or 1999). But if you plan on taking a vacation and you want to schedule a new post every day while you’re out, you’ve had to resort to third party services, like writing blog posts via email and using an email scheduler like LetterMeLater.

But now if you use the Blogger in Draft page, you can schedule posts just by setting the time for a future date and then clicking Publish. A message should pop up telling you that your post is now scheduled. Keep in mind, this only works if you write your posts using draft.blogger.com. If you use the main Blogger page, posts will go live as soon as you hit publish.

Record Skype calls for free with Call Graph

Category: Gmail, Google    |    121 views    |    Add a Comment  |

While Call Graph certainly isn’t the only Skype plugin that lets you record calls for free, it is certainly one of the simplest to use. And it’s free, which always helps. Several other popular Skype recording applications like Pamela let you record up to 15 minutes for free, but you’ll have to pony up some cash for a license if you want to record longer calls. There are no such limitations on Call Graph.

Here’s how it works. You install Call Graph, and it will automatically record every call you make as a 128kbps MP3 file. You’ll know it’s working because a window will pop up letting you know the call is being recorded and asking if you want to stop the recording. You can also click the icon in the system tray to configure Call Graph so that it won’t automatically record every call.

When a call ends, a window will pop up showing you a list of recent calls. You can play, rename, tag, or delete files from this window. There’s also a search bar to find previous calls, which can come in handy as long as you’ve been diligent about adding tags.

Call Graph appears to be Windows only for now, and it’s officially a public beta, although it seems to work pretty well.

Twobile: A Twitter client for Windows Mobile

Category: Blog, FireFox, Gmail    |    159 views    |    Add a Comment  |

has a mobile interface which you can access from any web-enabled cellphone or PDA by visiting m.twitter.com. But the mobile interface is a bit sparse and doesn’t let you, for example, look just at replies, direct message, or the public timeline.

Twobile is a Twitter client for Windows Mobile devices that adds many of the features you’d get from a desktop Twitter client like Twhirl or Twitterific. The application is available as a public beta, and is freeware, although the developer asks anyone who plans to use Twobile for business use to pay a license fee.

The client allows you to update your status, view the public timeline, your friends timeline, send and receive replies and direct messages, view featured users and favorites. And you can view avatars when you click on an individual message.
