Having a strategy in the stock market is very important. You should know when buy a stock, what is selling price and how long you will hold the shares. When choose a strategy follow its principles and don’t change your strategy every day.

2. Waiting for Market

7 Stock Market Tips to Live By

Planning to go into stock market investment? Here are some general tips to live by.

1. Understand the basics of economics.

The stock market follows the laws of economics, particularly the law of supply and demand. If there is a greater demand for the stocks of a particular company, the price of its stocks will go up accordingly. On the other hand, if there are more stocks available for selling (more sellers) than stock buyers, the unit price of that company’s stocks will go down.

2. Study your prospective company/ies.

Read up on the company’s profile: products, services, operations, and track record in the business. This is important to assess the company’s stability and capability to deliver its promises and meet its profit targets.

3. Choose companies that are more likely to stay.

With so many existing companies in the stock market, choosing becomes a big challenge for beginners. Government-owned companies and businesses are relatively stable, unless there is a political revolution in the horizon. Telecommunications and gasoline companies are also stable and profitable since the demand for these products and services is constant. Although IT companies are the fastest growing in the market today, be careful because there are so many of them that it checking on their profiles could be very taxing. Choose IT companies that have proven track records of profitability and stability of at least 10 years.

4. Always read and watch the news.

Dealing with the stock market is not a guessing game. Sound decisions and good intuition are results of constantly learning about the local and global political and economic happenings. Give particular attention to the industry where your company belongs. Even stable companies can suddenly go bankrupt or experience a big blow that can bring them down. Remember Enron?

5. Spread your investments.

Avoid investing in just one company. If all your stocks are concentrated to one company, the chance for loses is also greater. Spread them out so that earning investments can cushion those investments that earn less.

6. Do not rely solely on stock brokers.

Do your homework. Remember, the stock broker is “gambling” with your money. When an investor does not understand how the stock market works, he/she becomes vulnerable to scrupulous brokers.

7. Do not be greedy.

Although stock market investment is all about profits, becoming greedy will make an investor lose his/her better senses. He/She might suddenly forget to check on economic rumors and decide right away to buy or sell thinking that he/she would make big profits by doing so.

Speaking the language of robots

Category: Blog, Gmail, Google    |    101 views    |    Add a Comment  |

We all know how friendly Googlebot is. And like all benevolent robots, he listens to us and respects our wishes about parts of our site that we don’t want crawled. We can just give him a robots.txt file explaining what we want, and he’ll happily comply. But what if you’re intimidated by the idea of communicating directly with Googlebot? After all, not all of us are fluent in the language of robots.txt. This is why we’re pleased to introduce you to your personal robot translator: the Robots.txt Generator in Webmaster Tools. It’s designed to give you an easy and interactive way to build a robots.txt file. It can be as simple as entering the files and directories you don’t want crawled by any robots.

Or, if you need to, you can create fine-grained rules for specific robots and areas of your site.

Once you’re finished with the generator, feel free to test the effects of your new robots.txt file with our robots.txt analysis tool. When you’re done, just save the generated file to the top level (root) directory of your site, and you’re good to go. There are a couple of important things to keep in mind about robots.txt files:

  • Not every search engine will support every extension to robots.txt files

The Robots.txt Generator creates files that Googlebot will understand, and most other major robots will understand them too. But it’s possible that some robots won’t understand all of the robots.txt features that the generator uses.

  • Robots.txt is simply a request

Although it’s highly unlikely from a major search engine, there are some unscrupulous robots that may ignore the contents of robots.txt and crawl blocked areas anyway. If you have sensitive content that you need to protect completely, you should put it behind password protection rather than relying on robots.txt.
We hope this new tool helps you communicate your wishes to Googlebot and other robots that visit your site. If you want to learn more about robots.txt files, check out our Help Center. And if you’d like to discuss robots.txt and robots with other webmasters, visit our Google Webmaster Help Group.

Changing background color

Category: Blog, Gmail, Google    |    263 views    |    Add a Comment  |

If you are not happy with the background color of your blog, you can very easily change it in New Blogger. In the Dashboard, for the relevant blog, click LAYOUT (if in other pages of your Blogger account, you may have to click the TEMLPLATE or PAGE ELEMENTS tabs instead) and then click on the “Fonts and colors” sub-tab. You will be presented with various choices of what you want to change (Page background color, text color, etc, and also you can pick the colors you want by clicking on the “color box” or entering the color hex code:

New Blogger: changing color

You can chose from colors already present in your blog (first section), colors that can blend with colors of your blog, or “more color”. If you are fussy, you can even get a wider variety of colors by entering the color hex code. For this, ColorPic is a great tool. If you want ColorPic (free) type or copy-paste “colorpic” into the search box above, tick the “Web” radio button and search. Their site should appear in the first result. If you want more information, see Blending colors of your ads with the colors of your site. There is a screenshot that will help you use the tool.

And if you are hesitant to tinker with the color, I think you should not be too worried because there is a provision for you to revert to the template default color. You should see a link on the right in the screenshot that says “Revert to template default”. Click on that link (not in the screenshot but in your Blogger page) and everything should be back to its original state. Please note that I have no occassion to do that, so I am assuming that that is reliable. In anycase, you should have back uped your template as shown in the post Backing up and changing New Blogger template (click BACK to get back to this page).

If you only want to change the background color of the main column, sidebar, etc, refer to Chang background color or image of main column (posts).

Permalink (Individual Post Page) and how to link to it

Category: Blog, Gmail, Google    |    325 views    |    Add a Comment  |

A blog normally consist of a main (home or index) page which will display the latest posts, the number of posts displayed which you can set to what ever you want. Refer to setting number of posts to be displayed in main page. In addition to this, you can set the blog to have individual post pages (permalinks). In my honest opinion, you should enable individual post pages as it is one useful feature of blogs. When this is enabled, each post will have its own page plus its own URL. Any visitor to the main page can get to the individual post page of that post by clicking on the post title or by clicking on the timestamp Google Blogger timestamp (permalink). Most will not even know that that is a permalink on which you can click to get to that individual post page, but you can do some modification to the template to make it display like Google Blogger timestamp (permalink) made more prominent so that there is a better chance that a visitor will know what that is. If you want to do that, refer to Make permalink more prominent.

Some visitors (or maybe even you yourself) may want to link to a particular post, and you want the URL of that individual post page. There are many ways to do that. One is to right-click on the timestamp and select “Copy link location” (this is for FireFox. For Internet Explorer, it is “copy shortcut”):

right-click on Blogger timestamp to get post URL.

This will copy the URL into clipboard and you can paste that into wherever you like, for example when making a hyperlink to the post, etc. You can also click on the timestamp and be taken to the individual post page and copy the URL direct from the address bar at the top of the browser.

Then, to make a clickable link (hyperlink) you got to type the HTML for a hyperlink like the example below:

<a href=”URL of individual post page”>Title of post</a>

PPC (Pay per Click) tools

Category: Blog, Gmail, Google    |    116 views    |    Add a Comment  |

People blog for all kinds of reasons. I started blogging to help increase environmental awareness with an environmental blog Enviroman Says, then started a blog Blogger for Dummies to provide help for bloggers using the Google Blogger platform for their blogs. I was alerted to the face that “for Dummies” is a trademark of Wiley Publications and thus changed that blog title to “Dummies’ Guide to Blogger” and started a new blog Blogger Tips and Tricks which turned out to be hugely popular with bloggers.

However, I am a pensioner and had to support my two sons through collegue with my pension. I had to find a way to supplement my pension and it is a great thing that Google came up with AdSense which provides an easy way for bloggers like us to earn through contextual ads (ads relevant to the content of the blog and thus not irritating to visitors as they may find information or things they are interested in via the ads. In fact, I see may ads I am interested in on my own blog but cannot click on them as that can lead to my account being suspended), referrals for useful things like FireFox with Google toolbar, Google Pack which have products which can make your computer more useful, etc., and from adding Google search box (especially sitesearch box) to our blogs. I find the sitesearch box extremely useful as it helps my blog visitors to search for topics they are seeking.

However, earnings from participating in Google AdSense is directly proportional to the traffic to your site or sites (number of visitors) and some publishers uses Google AdWord to help increase traffic to their site or sites. They uses what is referred to as arbitrage, that is find keywords that people are likely to search for which can result in getting their ads displayed and placing a low bid (the amount an advertiser have to pay when someone click on the ad) to get the ads displayed. This is called PPC (pay per click) ads. By using various means like putting content taht attract high paying ads, they hope to make more from visitors clicking on their ads than the amount they have to pay for their AdWord (PPC) advertising campaingn. Google Adword the the leader in PPC but now Yahoo and MSN is also trying hard to catch up.

Now if you have to spend on PPC advertising campaigns, you will obviously want to try your best to maximise your returns. It will be good to have some tools to help you. This site PPC Tools try to give you everything you need for PPC advertising. This site has some links to some free tools like “Overture Keywords” which will help you find the keywords that people are using to search for information related to your content, and the “free keyword combination tool”. It is easy to use the first one, but I still haven’t figured out how the second tool works.

There are also some PPC tools for which you will have to pay like the “Google Money Pro E-Book” and “Keywords Elite”.

You can also try to get organic traffic (visits from search engines) for which you don’t need to pay, and the site Search Engine Marketing Hints also has a post SEO Tools to help you with that.

There are also other topics like “Blog Marketing Hints” and “Social Networking Hints” which can be helpful.
