Vlog: Quick Nokia E71 vs Blackberry Curve Comparison

Category: Nokia Reviews    |    40 views    |    Add a Comment  |

Mark (The Boss) and I went out last Saturday to go out and deliver some of our new Nokia E71 NAM from our store. Started early around 9 AM and we proceeded to go to the Poconos to shoot some guns at Sunset Hill shooting range. Also, I included a video of Mark and I briefly comparing the Nokia E71 to the Blackberry Curve in terms of looks and feel. Peep the videos after the hash brown.

Mark eating junk food at 9 in the morning… that’s not healthy bro! In any case, if you’re interested in a purchase, head over to the Nokia Blog store. We’ll try to get some more in later. No problems!

Sorry about the discombobulated comparison, lol. Our friends aren’t the most patient or cooperative bunch. If you haven’t read them yet, also check out our detailed physical review of the Nokia E71 and the Nokia E71 review from a business user.

Editor’s Note: The embedded videos above might not be visible in some RSS readers and while the battery cover is made of stainless steel, I meant to say the rest of the body on the Nokia E71 is made of “metal-looking plastic.” I was distracted by the driver.

Featured App: We:Offset Enables Us To Help With The Environment

Category: Nokia Reviews    |    66 views    |    Add a Comment  |

With we:offset, Nokia is enabling consumers to help fund projects that reduce or avoid greenhouse gases caused by human activities such as travel. This application is the world’s first CO2 emission offsetting tool on phones. My first thought was, “so what exactly does it do?” but I only understood after installing the application.

we:offset we:offset
Calculate your emissions.

We:offset can be useful for frequent travelers who are concerned about global warming and want to do their bit for the environment. It calculates the CO2 emissions caused by your travels, by either entering your destinations with airport codes, or by letting the application automatically detect location data for flight movement. It then translates the emission into the amount of money you can donate to the project and even lets you send the money directly from the phone.

Donate money to offset your CO2 emissions

I have not tried out the trip detection yet, but it would be interesting to test. If you are reading this and will be flying soon, please let me know how we:offset works and displays this feature. we:offset is free to download.

Review: ProClip Car Mount/Holder For the Nokia E71

Category: Nokia Reviews    |    70 views    |    Add a Comment  |

I already wrote a great review of the ProClip and believe it is the best device mounting solution for our cars. I tried it on the Nokia N95 8GB, the Nokia N82, and now on the recent popular phone, the Nokia E71. ProClip also just came out with a holder that includes a built-in charger so they sent that as well for the review. Check out the pics and video after the jump.

Want to see more of it in action? I streamed 2 videos live on Qik using the Nokia N95 8GB showing the difference between the holder with the charger and the holder without. Note: The videos below might not be visible in your RSS reader.

Verdict

The Proclip mounting solution requires you to purchase a specific mount built for your car, and then a specific holder for your phone. I explained this more thoroughly in my previous ProClip review.

The ProClip holder for the Nokia E71 fits perfectly with the phone. You just slide it in and can feel how secure it is in place. Since the mount was also made specifically for my car model, I don’t have to worry about my phone falling off when hitting those nasty New York City potholes.

Expensive but worth it. To put the Nokia E71 on my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, it’ll cost:

  • Holder with Tilt Swivel - $39.99 (add $40 for built-in charger)
  • Mount - $34.99
  • Move Clip Kit (optional to easily slide in multiple devices in one holder) - $13.99

Sure, I can get one of those cheap plastic windshield suction holders, but do I want to put my $400+ phone at risk of falling off and breaking? I don’t think so. The ProClip is expensive, but you really get what you pay for. Just ask anyone who owns it already.

Know other solutions that may work as well as the ProClip? Do you own it already? Please let me know what you’re thinking.

Nokia Sites Do Not Render Properly in Safari

Category: Nokia Reviews    |    68 views    |    Add a Comment  |

I remember it’s been a while since Nokia sites have displayed properly on my Mac using the Safari browser. What’s taking Nokia so long to fix this problem? Do they even know they have this problem? Aren’t all the built-in web browser on the latest Nokia Eseries, Nseries, and even the iPhone run on Safari engine? What’s going on?

Nokia USA
Nokia websites not displaying properly

The image above was taken from my computer. If you have your phone with you (Nseries, Eseries, or iPhone), try going to Nokia USA or Nokia Europe and see that the results are similar. Isn’t it ironic that Nokia’s own websites do not work properly on their own devices?

Nokia 6220 Classic Firmware Upgrade To 3.23

Category: Nokia Reviews    |    132 views    |    Add a Comment  |

Run the Nokia Software Updater for your Nokia 6220 classic to upgrade it for version 3.23 from 3.06. After the upgrade, all my data and installed applications stayed intact. I was hoping to do a firmware update through the 6220 classic over the air, but it could not find an update.

Nokia 6220 Classic updated

The most obvious change on the Nokia 6220 Classic 3.23 firmware update is the addition of Nokia Share Online on the active standby display showing the number of new comments or photos. I don’t know what other changes were brought on by the update but I’ve only played with the Nokia 6220 for a couple of days to notice anything. I will spend some more time with the Nokia 6220 Classic and give it a thorough review soon.
