Want To Access Blocked Websites ? Try Google Proxy

Category: Tips and Tricks    |    664 views    |    2 Comments  |

Many a times friends ask me give the address of a working proxy server, so that they can access the blocked websites in their Offices or Computer Labs. A proxy server is a kind of buffer between your computer and the Internet resources you are accessing. Thus by connecting to a Proxy Server you can actually bypass the filtering mechanism.

Thousands of free Proxy servers are available on Google results. But why searching for a Proxy Server when Google can itself be used as a proxy.

This trick is slightly old but pretty cool nevertheless. Just use the following syntax:

http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.site.com

Replace the www.site.com with the site that you are trying to access. In this case, Google will access the pages like a web proxy and translate it back to the same language (english to english here). If you are accessing a site in a different language change the langpair to the appropriate tags.
Do remember that this technique is not guaranteed to work everywhere or with every kind of firewall or access-control system out there, nor will it hide your IP address. But do let me know how the Google proxy idea worked for you.

Avoid getting hacked

What’s ‘Hacking?’
As defined in the dictionary, hacking is “to use one’s skill in computer programming to gain unauthorized access to a file or network.” If someone gets your account password, and they might take all of your stuff on your character, or possibly even your character itself.

What Bad Things are out There?

There are several ways someone can get your password to your account. Most can also do some bad things.

1. Trojans, Trojan Horses - These are malicious programs pretending to be a regular program. They can destroy data and send info back to the owner, such as passwords. The main difference between them and computer viruses is that they do not replicate.
2. Viruses - Bad programs made by people to (usually) do bad things to computers. They can be disguised as games, pictures, or regular programs. When executed they could destroy information.
3. Key Loggers - these are programs much like Trojans, but usually they don’t destroy data. They keep track of every keystroke made, and then sends it back to the owner.
4. Worms - Worms are viruses that sit in the computer’s memory, duplicating themselves. They can be sent to other computers through an email program, or IRC (internet relay chat), destroying data.
5. Spyware, Adware - Usually these come from programs with bundled software, like file sharing utilities. Both will track what sites you visit and what you do on them.
6. Guessing Passwords - although unlikely, if you have an easy password, someone could guess it, or — automated scripts with common words dictionaries embedded can “break” your easy-to-figure password too!

How Can A Person Get These?

With exception to #6, all the programs above can be gotten from a computer program. Sometimes they can be sent by email, a downloaded program, or a website. But, usually you will not find any of these things unless you’re looking for a cheat to the game, or doing other… bad things.

Instant Messengers

If someone asks you to be their friend, and then tries to send you a file, reject it. Especially files with a .exe, .cmd, .bat, or .scr extension. Even if they want to send you a picture of them self, I would advise not to accept it unless you absolutely trust the person.

How Not to Get Them?

There are lots of ways to be sure not to get any of the bad things mentioned earlier. Using your common sense is a good start!

1. Don’t download anything questionable, like character modifiers, add-on Tibia programs, or toolkits, unless its from a trusted fan site. Both tibia news and Tibia.de are run by official Tibia Game masters (Excessus and Ralgar respectively).

2. Never play Tibia from any computer than yours.

3. Never open an attachment from an email offering something in Tibia. It could be a dangerous program that I discussed above.

4. Remember that CIP will never send an attachment to you via email, and they will never have a click able link in an email.

5. More importantly, CIP will never send you an e-mail! Ignore any message that claims to be from them, even if it says it’s urgent, because it isn’t from CIP. Common subjects of these fake e-mails are: “Tibia Poll”, “Your Tibia Account”, “Your Tibia Membership”.

6. Make sure to have all updates for your Operating System (Windows, Mac OS, Linux, etc.)

7. Scan your computer for viruses using an anti virus program such as one of these:

Top 10 Hacker Movies

Category: Tips and Tricks    |    539 views    |    Add a Comment  |

Here are the top 10 voted hacker movies of all time….check out how many of them you have seen:))

10) Swordfish (2001)
Over-the-top violence, preposterous situations, sexy women, and outstanding special effects make this a great popcorn rental. No, don’t bring your brain to watch this, but if you like techno-thrillers, definitely rent this. John Travolta is the slimy villain, Hugh Jackman is the studly hero hacker, and Halle Berry is the mysterious damsel.

9) The Italian Job (2003)
Modern heist movies always involve some sort of hacking. This particular heist movie is extremely entertaining, especially when the supposed true inventor of “Napster” is the main hacker.
At least 20 minutes of hacking footage in this actioner. Definitely worth renting if you haven’t seen it.

8) Foolproof (2003)
A lower-budget movie about hobby bank robbers, this was a delightful surprise to many viewers. Ryan Reynolds and his friends “virtually” rob banks for fun, but are blackmailed into doing a heist for real. This is a good action rental.

7) eXistenZ (1999)
A David Cronenberg film, this is the creepiest entry in the list. A game designer creates an artificial reality game that plugs directly into people’s minds. The line between reality and game then blurs in a violent and gruesome way. This is very much a powerful art film, and not for everyone.

6) The Score (2001)
Edward Norton and Robert De Niro are fabulous in this heist flick. In a clever plot to rob a Montreal customs house of some royal artifacts, Norton and De Niro must break into the security systems with the help of a socially-awkward hacker who lives in his mother’s basement. Ten minutes of hacking, and 100 minutes of phenomenal robbery storytelling!

5) Sneakers (1992)
While dated, this movie was groundbreaking at the time, and is still charming to this day. The story revolves around two college buddies who take different paths in life. One becomes an ethical hacker, and the other…well, he is not quite so noble. Some great plot twists and comic scenes make this a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon at home.

4) Revolution OS (2001)
This documentary tells the story about the Linux operating system, and how it forwarded the philosophy of “open source” and free intellectual property. Not an action movie, but definitely interesting for people who want to learn more about why computer culture is the way it is. If you can find a copy of this, definitely rent it.

3) Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
Leave it to Bruce Willis to save the world from uber hackers. Macintosh advertising personality, Justin Long, plays the reluctant programmer caught up in an digital terrorism scheme. Like Swordfish, this movie has over-the-top violence and outrageous action sequences, but if you liked the Die Hard series, definitely see this .

2) Wargames (1983)
Yes, this movie is very old, but it is still a pivotal film in many viewers’ minds. A young man finds a back door into a military computer that is linked to the nuclear defense grid of the United States. A preposterous plot, but a compelling commentary on nuclear war and the destruction of the human race. You have to see this movie just to say you have seen it.

1) Tron (1982)
A classic! A hacker is transported into the digital universe inside a computer, and must survive combat as a cyber gladiator in order to stop the villanous Master Control. The imagination behind this movie made big ripples in the science fiction world, and today, Tron is a cult classic that every computer user should see at least once.
